Job Description:

The Morning News Anchor requires the proven skill to enterprise stories, seek out and interview relevant individuals, edit audio and then write compelling, factual, grammatically correct, and ready-for-air news copy. In addition, an Anchor may be asked to work outside of the newscasts to produce long-form reports or features to be utilized throughout the broadcast day. Anchors are expected to adhere to strict journalistic standards. This position works closely with a Co-Anchor, News Editor, and Executive Producer and, as a team, shares the same goal of delivering timely, engaging, and audience-centered news content.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • News content production; including but not limited to  enterprise stories, audio editing, writing and copy editing.
  • Write and hone morning newscast while ensuring editorial, creative and technical excellence.
  • Track the ongoing flow of daily news while maintaining the organization and relevance of news copy.
  • Work quickly and efficiently alone or in a team; must be able to respond aggressively and self-direct in breaking news situations.

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in news editing, producing, and reporting
  • Minimum two years of on-air experience for a news station.
  • Able to find, develop, write and deliver compelling news stories.
  • Provide outstanding writing, copy editing, interviewing and audio editing skills.
  • Possesses solid news judgement and understanding of journalistic standards.
  • Able to enunciate clearly and interpret and read news copy fluently.
  • Computer literate with the technical abilities to navigate software and operate studio equipment.
  • Understands social media platforms and use them in a professional manner.
  • Available for early-mornings, holidays and when major news events break.
  • Able to stay calm in breaking news situations and work alone or with a team to get information on the air that is factual, meaningfu and clear whether scripted or ad-lib.
  • Able to multi-task while navigating stressful situations.
  • Maintain a positive and cooperative rapport with staff,management, and clients.
  • Project an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor.
